Services > Document F Compliance Calculations
Simplified Building Energy Model (SBEM) and Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) calculations are now required for all new builds in Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England as of 2006. SBEM shall apply to all builds that are categorised by Building Control as non-domestic, while the SAP calculation deals with domestic applications.
The purpose of these calculations is to show compliance with the Northern Building Control Regulation Part F and the British Building Control Regulation Part L, Conservation of Fuel and Power. In order to show compliance, certain criteria must be met. This criteria includes material U-Values being used that are lower than a given value, air permeability being less than or equal to a given value and building / dwelling emission rates being less than the target emission rates (BER / DER <= TER) for the given building size and usage.
The requirement for producing commercial and domestic building energy models is also coming to the fore in 2008 in the Republic of Ireland. Calculations based on SAP and SBEM will be a necessity in the Republic prior to construction of new builds.
Cuilinn Engineering Ltd can carry out these design calculations for you as part of a Building Control Submission package that includes Fire Alarm and Emergency Lighting Drawings. Cuilinn Engineering Ltd uses BRE approved SAP and SBEM software. To carry out the calculation, there shall be information that the client will have to provide in terms of the building structure and proposed mechanical and electrical equipment, which will be held in the strictest confidence.
